The number of people killed in the Philippines as a result of severe weather linked to Typhoon Bavi has risen to 17.
Authorities said the storm strengthened the southwest monsoon, bringing intense rainfall to several parts of the country and triggering landslides and flooding. Rescue teams have continued operations in affected communities as officials assess damage and search for people reported missing.
Some of the deadliest incidents were caused by landslides in areas where prolonged rain destabilised slopes. Roads and transport links have also been disrupted in several locations.
Emergency services remain on alert as forecasters warn that heavy rain could continue in parts of the region. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to follow evacuation orders and local safety instructions.
Typhoon Bavi has also affected other parts of the western Pacific, bringing strong winds and severe weather as authorities across the region continue to monitor its movement.
