More than 200 civilians were involved in violent clashes with military recruitment officers and police in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, according to Ukrainian authorities. During the incident, a military recruitment vehicle was overturned, and several service members were assaulted.
Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office has opened criminal proceedings into the attack on the recruitment officers, while the Armed Forces also launched an internal investigation into the conduct of the personnel involved. Officials condemned the violence and called for all actions to remain within the framework of the law.
The confrontation reportedly began during an attempt to detain a man subject to military service. Videos circulating on social media showed large crowds gathering around the recruitment vehicle before it was overturned.
The incident reflects growing public tensions surrounding Ukraine’s mobilization process as the war continues. Ukrainian officials have acknowledged concerns over recruitment practices and say reforms are being prepared, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining public order and supporting the country’s defence efforts.
