The United States and Iran are expected to resume negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme on July 11 in Pakistan, as both sides seek to build on recent diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East.
According to regional media reports, the upcoming meeting is expected to focus on Iran’s nuclear activities, sanctions relief, the release of frozen Iranian assets and broader regional security issues. Pakistan continues to play a key mediating role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
The talks will take place after the conclusion of Iran’s national mourning period following the funeral ceremonies for former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Diplomatic contacts had been temporarily paused during the ceremonies, but both sides have signalled their willingness to continue negotiations.
Previous rounds of discussions, held with the support of Qatar and Pakistan, resulted in progress on several technical issues, including maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and the framework for future negotiations. However, major disagreements remain over Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions and long-term security guarantees.
