Two people were seriously injured after part of a building collapsed in Sydney, Australia, prompting a major emergency response. The incident occurred in the inner-city suburb of Ultimo, about two kilometers from Sydney’s central business district, according to New South Wales emergency services. Reuters reported that rescue teams were quickly dispatched to secure the area and search for anyone trapped beneath the debris.
According to NSW Ambulance, emergency crews responded shortly before 11:00 a.m. local time. A total of seven people were assessed at the scene, with two victims transported to hospital suffering serious injuries. The remaining five people received treatment on site and did not require hospitalization.
Australian media reported that a large external wall of the building suddenly collapsed near an active construction site. Falling debris damaged several parked vehicles, while police established a safety perimeter around the area. Nearby buildings and a service station were evacuated as a precaution while authorities checked for gas leaks and structural risks.
Specialist Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams used drones, thermal imaging equipment, and structural assessment tools to ensure nobody remained trapped under the rubble. Emergency officials later confirmed that there were no reports of missing persons.
The cause of the collapse remains under investigation. Engineers and structural experts are examining the site to determine whether construction work, structural failure, or another factor triggered the incident.
