Turkey has announced a $300 million investment in a new satellite system designed to strengthen NATO’s intelligence, surveillance and early warning capabilities. The project was unveiled during the NATO Summit in Ankara. 4
The program includes the development of two new high-resolution Earth observation satellites, IMECE-2 and IMECE-3, by TÜBİTAK Space. Together with the existing IMECE satellite, they will provide faster imaging, more frequent coverage and improved intelligence gathering across large areas. 5
The satellites will become part of NATO’s new HALO initiative, which aims to connect the military satellites of several Allied nations into a unified space network capable of supporting secure communications, missile tracking and real-time intelligence sharing. 6
Turkish officials say the investment will strengthen both the country’s national defence capabilities and NATO’s overall technological architecture. The system is expected to improve surveillance over crisis zones, maritime regions, border areas and military operations. 7
