Tokyo is preparing to launch one of its most unusual tourist attractions yet — a double-decker sightseeing bus fitted with a fully functioning conveyor-belt sushi lane. SUSHI BUS is scheduled to begin operating in October 2026, combining a panoramic tour of the Japanese capital with around 70 minutes of all-you-can-eat sushi. The open upper deck will accommodate just 20 passengers, who will be able to pick plates from the moving conveyor while watching Tokyo pass around them.The sushi will be prepared in a kitchen on the bus’s lower level before being transported upstairs by an internal elevator. Staff on the second floor will then place the dishes onto the conveyor running alongside the seats. The service will depart from near Tokyo Station and is expected to travel through some of the city’s best-known areas, potentially including Ginza, Shibuya and Asakusa, although the final route may still be adjusted.
The company behind the project describes it as the world’s first open-top double-decker bus equipped with a conveyor-belt sushi system, based on its own research. Developed over roughly two and a half years, the concept is aimed particularly at international visitors looking for an experience that combines Japanese food culture with sightseeing. If the Tokyo service proves successful, the company hopes to eventually expand the idea to other major tourist destinations in Japan.
