Strong Galaxy Z Fold8 Demand Pushes Samsung to Increase Production by One Million Units

Samsung is reportedly increasing production of the Galaxy Z Fold8 after demand for its new foldable smartphone exceeded initial expectations. According to information from South Korean industry sources, the company has decided to add approximately one million devices to its 2026 production plan. This would raise the target for the Galaxy Z Fold8 from around 2.8 million to approximately 3.8 million units.

The decision follows strong pre-orders and early sales of Samsung’s latest generation of foldable smartphones. Reports indicate that the company has already increased orders for some of the components required to manufacture the additional devices. This suggests that the adjustment is not simply a forecast of stronger future sales but is already affecting Samsung’s supply chain and production planning.

Even before the new Galaxy Z series reached consumers, Samsung had placed unusually strong emphasis on the Galaxy Z Fold8. Industry reports published before its launch indicated that the company planned to manufacture approximately 2.8 million units of the standard Fold8, compared with around two million Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra devices and 1.5 million Galaxy Z Flip8 units. This represented a notable shift from previous generations, when Samsung generally placed greater production emphasis on the more affordable Flip series.

One of the strongest indications of demand has come from South Korea. The new generation of Samsung foldables reportedly generated around 1.44 million pre-orders in the domestic market, with the Galaxy Z Fold8 accounting for approximately 70% of those orders. The unusually high share of the larger book-style foldable appears to have been an important factor behind Samsung’s decision to increase production.

Strong interest has also been reported in other markets. The Fold8 has performed particularly well within Samsung’s new foldable range in Europe, providing further evidence that demand for larger foldable smartphones may be increasing beyond South Korea. This is significant because foldable devices have remained a relatively small premium segment of the global smartphone market despite years of investment by Samsung and other manufacturers.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 represents another step in Samsung’s effort to make foldable smartphones more practical for everyday use. Its wider proportions are intended to provide a more conventional experience when using the external display while retaining the large internal folding screen. The new form factor is one of the factors being linked to stronger consumer interest in this generation.

Adding approximately one million devices represents a substantial production adjustment for a premium smartphone. If the revised plan is completed, production of the Galaxy Z Fold8 could reach around 3.8 million units during 2026. This does not necessarily mean that every device produced will be sold during the year, but it indicates that Samsung expects demand to remain significantly stronger than initially projected.

The development is also important for the wider foldable smartphone market. For years, foldable phones have remained a relatively limited premium category compared with conventional smartphones. The strong early performance of the Galaxy Z Fold8 suggests that larger foldable devices may be gaining a broader audience. Sales data over the coming months will show whether the strong launch represents a lasting change in consumer demand or primarily an exceptionally successful debut for Samsung’s latest model.
