Major record labels and music industry organizations are urging streaming platforms to introduce clear labels for songs created with artificial intelligence, arguing that listeners should know how music has been produced.

The proposal introduces two categories: one for tracks generated entirely or predominantly by AI, including AI-created vocals or instrumental performances, and another for music that is primarily created by humans but uses AI as a production tool. The labels would function similarly to existing explicit-content warnings.

Supporters say the measure would increase transparency, help protect artists’ rights and allow listeners to distinguish between human-made and AI-generated music. Several major organizations, including the RIAA and IFPI, support the initiative, while streaming services are already exploring new AI metadata systems.

The proposal reflects the music industry’s broader effort to adapt to the rapid growth of AI-generated content while maintaining trust and fairness across digital music platforms.
