Japan is preparing a major long-term investment strategy aimed at strengthening its global leadership in anime, manga, video games and other creative industries. The government plans to support the sector through large-scale public and private investment, recognizing entertainment as one of the country’s key economic growth engines.

Under the new strategy, Japan aims to invest around 34 trillion yen (approximately $230 billion) in its content industry by 2033. The plan includes funding for animation studios, manga publishers, game developers, music production and international distribution networks. Officials also intend to establish a new centralized organization to coordinate overseas expansion and promote Japanese content worldwide.

The government hopes to increase overseas revenue from Japanese entertainment content to 20 trillion yen annually by 2033, more than tripling current export levels. Video games are expected to receive the largest share of investment, followed by anime, music and manga.

Another important part of the initiative focuses on artificial intelligence. Japan plans to support AI-powered translation and localization tools to make anime, manga and games available more quickly in foreign languages while also helping combat online piracy through faster official releases.

Government officials believe Japan’s creative industries have become one of the country’s strongest international assets, with global demand continuing to grow rapidly. By expanding investment and improving international distribution, Tokyo hopes to strengthen its cultural influence, create new jobs and secure a larger share of the global entertainment market.
