That distinction is important, as describing Cincinnati as the first Masters 1000 quarterfinal of his career would be inaccurate. The result also underlines the Italian’s growing ability to compete successfully across different surfaces. His progress in Cincinnati has required resilience: before facing Jodar, Cobolli also needed three sets to overcome Alexander Blockx 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 in the previous round.
For Cobolli, reaching the last eight represents another important step as the North American hard-court season approaches the US Open. The Italian has increasingly established himself among the leading players on the ATP Tour, and his Cincinnati performance shows that his game is becoming more effective on hard courts as well. After recovering from a difficult start against Jodar, Cobolli once again demonstrated his ability to remain composed under pressure and find his best tennis when the match reaches its decisive stages.
