A 31-year-old British woman has died after being stabbed at Rosenheim railway station in Bavaria, southern Germany, in the early hours of Sunday. Witnesses called emergency services at around 12:50 a.m. local time after the woman suffered severe injuries in the attack. She was taken to hospital but died later that night. Federal police detained a 27-year-old German man from the Fürstenfeldbruck district at the scene and he is being treated as the main suspect. Investigators are treating the case as a suspected homicide, but the motive remains unknown.
Local reports citing police say the victim was travelling through Bavaria rather than staying in Rosenheim. She had arrived at Munich Airport from London Heathrow on Saturday evening and was continuing by public transport towards a neighbouring country, with reports indicating she may have been waiting for a night train towards Salzburg. Investigators currently have no clear evidence that the victim and suspect knew each other and have appealed for witnesses who may have seen an argument or physical altercation at the station before the stabbing. Police have also said there is no indication that the killing was connected to Rosenheim’s ongoing Herbstfest, a festival similar to Oktoberfest. Britain’s Foreign Office said it is supporting the woman’s family and remains in contact with German authorities.
