Apple has reportedly begun testing Chinese-made memory chips that could be used in future iPhone models intended for the Chinese market. According to industry sources, the company is evaluating components from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) as part of its efforts to diversify its supply chain.
The move is believed to be driven by rising memory chip prices and Apple’s strategy to reduce its dependence on a limited number of suppliers. At this stage, the testing process does not guarantee that the components will be adopted for commercial production.
CXMT has become one of China’s fastest-growing DRAM manufacturers and continues to expand its production capacity, making it an increasingly important player in the global semiconductor industry.
Market analysts believe that if Apple eventually approves the use of Chinese memory chips, the decision could reshape competition within the global memory market and increase pressure on established suppliers.
Apple has not officially confirmed the reports and traditionally declines to comment on future products, suppliers or supply chain decisions.
